Fox & Goose: Reviews & Ratings

The elevated outdoor patio guarded by the bronze fox and goose by the road is what drew us in today. We then noticed that we were directly beneath the Historic District sign, putting us in an older neighborhood. Juliana was our waitress and recommended a plate of fried pickles to accompany the first round of beer and cocktails. Heather got a fun gin Razzle Dazzle and I a Stone IPA. The dill pickles were delightful with a perfect amount of fry crisp. For those concerned about their seafood sourcing, the fish and chips are WILD cod and were juicy and firm. We stopped in a little early to catch the happy hour, but there also weren’t any other patrons so had the place to ourselves. It was great!

It had been awhile since last visiting and was happy to receive good food and service again. The bartender efficiently set us up with lattes as we waited for a table to open. No chairs at the bar. We got a two top in the aisle, not a desirable situation. Our server was lovely and the orders were delivered timely and correctly. The Kew Garden omelet is light and naturally flavorful. Total visit for a holiday season Monday lunch window just under 90 minutes.

Do yourself a favor and order the mini scones with the Devonshire cream. This place is pretty spacious (with indoor and outdoor seating) and has a good selection of alcohol at the bar. The food was pretty good as well. The overall service was great and our server Kaitl M was exceptional! Recommend this place forsure!

There’s something special about **Fox & Goose Public House**. It’s a true Sacramento staple, full of history and memories for so many of us — myself included. And because of that, this review comes with a little bit of love… and a little bit of tough honesty. If I were rating purely on nostalgia and all the amazing breakfasts I’ve had here over the years, this would be an easy five stars. This visit, though, felt more like a solid four. The food was fine — not bad at all — just not as memorable as it used to be. Portions seemed noticeably smaller than I remember, and some of the flavor felt a bit lackluster compared to the magic Fox & Goose used to deliver. We ordered the quiche of the day. It was pretty good, nicely cooked, but it didn’t have that “wow” factor or bold personality that makes you think about it later. I had the Athena omelette, and unfortunately, it didn’t quite shine. It mostly tasted like tomatoes, and I barely saw or tasted the feta. It just didn’t have much presence or depth — not bad, just not memorable. Now let’s talk about the reason we really came: the olallieberry scones with Devonshire cream. These used to be legendary. There was always that excitement of ordering them — the only question was how many more we could squeeze in before leaving. This time, they were still good… but smaller, and missing that magic touch I remember. And the $2 extra charge for the Devonshire cream felt a little unnecessary. It just didn’t hit the same way. On the bright side, the coffee was great (as always), and the sides that came with the plates were good too. Service and atmosphere still carry that cozy, classic feel. I may sound harsh, and that’s honestly not my intention. I love this place. I’ve had so many great memories here over the years, which is why I think I felt the difference so strongly this time. It just felt more like a typical diner visit instead of the iconic Sacramento experience I’ve always associated with Fox & Goose. That said — the food was not terrible at all. It’s still a solid spot for breakfast, and people should absolutely go try it and enjoy it. I’m giving four stars because it still deserves support and customers. I just hope it finds that magic again, because longtime fans know how special it can truly be.

Fox & Goose is a cozy and welcoming English pub that serves a real hearty breakfast. The place feels warm and old-fashioned with wood tables, big windows, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to take your time. The food was excellent and felt authentic. The traditional English breakfast came with eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, and toast. Everything tasted fresh and well-cooked. The potatoes and scones were also really good, simple and comforting. Service was friendly and easygoing, and the whole experience was very enjoyable. It’s a great spot for a proper English breakfast and a pleasant way to start the day.

I came here for Saturday breakfast. It was quite a long wait. We were told 20 minutes, but it took more than a half hour. I wanted to try something different, so I ordered the New Yorker omelette which had smoked salmon, cream cheese, and chives along with potatoes and a crumpet. I enjoyed it, although I felt like the smoked salmon was a little too overpowering in the flavor, so I'd probably get something else if I came here again. I enjoyed the ambiance; it used to be an old paint factory, but it was remodeled very nicely. Our table wobbled a lot and spilled our coffee and drinks quite a bit. That could be a quick fix if the management gives it some attention. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Fox & Goose was a favorite brunch spot for my dad and our family for many years—he lived just around the corner. Coming back 20 years later felt nostalgic, and I’m happy to say the charm is still intact. The neighborhood has changed dramatically and is now one of Sacramento’s hot spots, but Fox & Goose remains a true gem. The English pub/café vibe is welcoming, the brunch is solid, and our server took great care of us. We enjoyed some great cocktails, and the tofu scramble with pesto and walnuts was a standout. Prices are reasonable, though weekend parking can be tough—still absolutely worth it.

Nice place to hangout to get some banger & mash or scones. Good place to bring guests from out of town. Plenty of seating with some tables outside if you’re dining with your furry friends. There can be a wait unless you come during off hours.
